Keeping it clean for One Direction

CHANNEL 9 is cracking down on teens armed with smutty signs who hold tickets to the special One Direction performance at Crown tomorrow.

The wildly popular UK boy band will sing one song for 400 lucky prize-winners on the red carpet at Crown about an hour before the official arrivals for the Logie awards kick off.

The performance will be filmed and used as part of the Logies broadcast tomorrow.

Nine is taking firm steps to avoid a repeat of the band's appearance in Sydney during the week where young fans turned out in force, with many waving grubby and sexually explicit signs.

Channel 7 was forced to apologise to Sunrise viewers after some of the signs appeared on screen during Wednesday's program.

Aware that similar signs could offend viewers, Nine has moved to stop them appearing in the Logie broadcast.

In short, dirty signs with rude slogans or sexual suggestions will be confiscated. "There will be plenty of security checking all ticket holders on the day," Nine spokeswoman Victoria Buchan said.

"We are confident everything that goes to air will be appropriate."

Following their song, One Direction will appear on the red carpet and later present an award.

And late yesterday, Nine confirmed they had bowed to fan pressure and One Direction had agreed to perform on the Logies stage.

They will close the show with their catchy hit One Thing.

The show schedule was frantically being reshuffled to make room for the extra performance.

"We are thrilled that One Direction will now be closing the show and we encourage everyone to stay home and watch them on the Channel 9 Logies broadcast and enjoy it," Buchan said.

She reiterated that fans without bleacher tickets should stay away from Crown, as they would not get access to the red carpet or the band.

Victoria Police also urged One Direction fans not to gather at Crown, saying it was best to see them on TV at home.
