If anyone out there is wondering whether Facebook is still cool, this newest milestone may change your mind. The social network now has 1.44 billion active users. We repeat: 1.44 billion.
According to The Daily Dot, the company confirmed the news on a recent call reporting the first of its 2015 earnings. That staggering number means there are officially more Facebook users than there are
people living in China. (The country has a measly population of 1.357 billion).
So it's official: Facebook is now the the world's biggest country. Are you scared yet?
The site's user numbers are especially impressive here in America, where over half the population is a member. And, that includes people who don't even have Internet (like your great-grandma or, you know, babies). CEO
Mark Zuckerberg told those on the call that they're working towards even more expansion, and we imagine he said something like "We won't rest until we've achieved
total world domination," perhaps followed by an evil laugh.
I am not sure how Facebook will fare in more developing countries, but it certainly seems like they're aiming to recruit the younger generation here at home. After all, they
did decide to bring back away messages. If the chance to post emo song lyrics and tedious details of your day doesn't attract the youths, we don't know what does.
