Justin Bieber Banned From Contacting Selena Gomez: Why He's Blamed For Her 'Downward Spiral'

Ever since Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, once the pop prince and pop princess of romantic relationships, had an epic war of words on Instagram, their on-again, off-again romance has seemed stuck in the "off" position. Their estrangement occurred when Justin attacked his fans on Instagram for their hostility toward his then-girlfriend Sofia Richie. Selena leaped into the battle to defend those fans, and that's when she and Bieber were caught up in a war of words that reportedly caused her to crumble.

But the trouble between the two reportedly began even before that, and consequently, with Gomez now in rehab trying to cope with anxiety and depression linked to lupus, Justin allegedly has been banned from making any type of contact with her.

Bieber has been told to leave Gomez alone, according to the Hollywood Gossip, which also revealed that her family is blaming him for playing a role in the problems that caused her to check into rehab. Selena herself told fans about her health struggles.

"Around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways," shared Gomez.

"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks, and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges."

Consequently, she added that she had chosen to take a "proactive" attitude to stay healthy and happy by taking time off. The result was the cancellation of the remaining dates on her "Revival Tour," followed by her stay at a treatment facility.

As the Inquisitr reported, Selena has enjoyed visits from selected friends during her stay in rehab, including Ed Sheeran, who is rumored to be a potential replacement for Bieber, and Jennifer Aniston, who empathized with her over how it feels to get tangled in Brad Pitt's divorce drama.

But when it comes to the possibility that Justin will make time to visit Gomez during a break on his own tour, her family has ordered him to stay away, reported the Hollywood Gossip.

"[Selena's family] recently reached out to Justin and told him to stay far, far away."

In addition, just in case Bieber wanted to call, text or email Gomez between concerts, her family "told him he's banned from calling, texting, emailing, or visiting her," added the media outlet, which explained that her family "blames Justin for much of her downward spiral."

However, Selena herself reportedly previously blamed Justin for causing what Life & Style refers to as her "downward spiral." Following that war of words with Bieber on Instagram and the cancellation of her "Revival Tour," Gomez confided in friends that she felt "backed into a corner" because of Bieber's romance with Sofia Richie, sources told the media outlet.

"It was really hard for her," explained one of the insiders.

"She saw Justin looking so happy and that really sent her into a downward spiral."

In addition, Gomez reportedly was hurt by Bieber's attack on Instagram.

Selena, 24, and Justin, 22, began their in-love, out-of-love romance cycle in 2011. But she was so hurt by the Instagram battle that she "changed her phone number," a source close to Gomez told Us Weekly.

"She told everyone not to give it to him," added the insider.

The decision to cut off Bieber resulted from their feud on Instagram, when Gomez advised Bieber not to post pictures of his romance with then-girlfriend Sofia Richie. That's when Justin allegedly accused her of cheating with former One Direction member Zayn Malik.

"Oh I forgot about You and Zayn?" Bieber reportedly questioned.

"Selena lost it," revealed the source.

"She can be fragile emotionally and Justin is a major factor."

As for how Gomez is doing, she is seeking to turn her focus to her "mental health," added the insider.

But Selena isn't having an easy time in rehab, In Touch told readers. Staying at the Brookhaven Retreat in Tenn., Gomez is generating concern among her friends and family because her stay "has been anything but a positive experience," according to the media outlet.

"Everyone is worried. Selena keeps saying she feels like hell and wants to leave the facility or go switch to outpatient treatment," a source told In Touch.

"If anyone knew how bad she was, they'd be in shock."

However, exiting the treatment center isn't a "feasible option" because of her depression and anxiety, and Selena is expected to remain there for "a few months," according to the insider.
