Ok, i finally saw it.
Sex and the city 2.
this is a long time coming. In fact my attitude is telling me a lot. I lived for SATC when it was on tv and in boxset form. I still do in fact. I would watch so much it bordered on boxset abuse!
So when 3 weeks after the release date, I still hadn't gone to see the film. i KNEW something was up. I just never expected it to be the film.
It's awful.
1 - I couldn't relate to any of the characters anymore. I used to relate to Charlotte (as I am a secret romantic, Carrie (because of the writer slash eccentric dressing slash single girl thing) Samantha (for her love of.....birkin handbags) and Miranda (because in real life, she plays for my team and also, she had a sarcastic sense of humour like me). I cannot relate to menopause, marr-iage and babies. Because I'm not, I will never and I have none. SATC used to relate to all girls everywhere. They lost me as a viewer. The only thing I related to was the destruction of a Valentino skirt by a child. Children should not be let loose near nice things. ever.
2 - The Irish accent. This must be addressed as it's the worst accent I have ever heard. It's not too far off a 'Top O the morning to ye lads, tis a fine day.' which frankly, would not have surprised me.
3 - The gay wedding. The fact that Anthony and Stanford got married was a cop out. A lazy way to wrap up two gay characters who they couldn't be bothered writing new and decent characters for. The two couldn't stand each other in the series and it worked. The wedding was a giant mess slash cop out.
4 - The muslim scenes were not borderline racist. They WERE racist. Everytime Samantha thrust her crotch at a muslim crowd and roared - THATS RIGHT! I HAVE SEX'. I cringed. And not in a oh-this-is-so-funny-but-morto-for-her way. I cringed because it was just awful to watch. Nothing was respectful or subtly funny. It was just about cheap laughs at another cultures expense to cover up the lack of storyline.
5 - Carrie's clothing. Was lacklustre. At best. Nothing was stand out. oh my god gotta have it for me. nothing.
6 - The 80's flashbacks did not work and didn't work because they were too short.
I have some other problems, but....for me. these were the main few. I just felt like I had been robbed. I felt cheap after. I almost asked for my money back. But, the sight of Liza doing single girls in sequins cheered me up.
Apparently, I am not alone. Plans for SATC 3 have been rumoured to be on the back burners since fans took to the blogs, reviewers to the reviews and SLATED the film. Which has upset Sarah Jessica Carrie Parker to no end. Mainly because, let's face it. This was really all she had.
I mean come on. did anyone rush to the cinema to go see 'Did you hear about the Morgans?'. if you did, then I'm sorry for your troubles......
Fans were apparently waiting for the 3rd film to come out and finish the trilogy of knock offs, i mean films. But according to insiders....you've as much chance of that happening as Stanford getting a decent storyline....
